Slow but Steady Growth Forecast for P&C Industry

Steady premium growth will assist property/casualty insurers in weathering the ongoing difficulties of a volatile economy and catastrophe management, according to the most recent edition of Conning’s quarterly Property/Casualty Forecast & Analysis.

PIP Contributes to Rise in Auto Insurance Claims Costs

Auto insurance claims are on the rise across the country according to a new report released by the Insurance Research Council (IRC). The report, issued this week, found that the increase in costs is reversing previous trends of relatively stable costs that have even declined in some cases.

How Does the CCD Work in a Copier?

While some designs of photocopiers and many older machines still use photosensitive belts or drums to capture images, many newer copiers and scanners use a technology similar to that in digital cameras. A charge-coupled device is a sort of image sensor, converting photons from light into electrical impulses. The copier then translates these impulses into image data, allowing the copier to print a duplicate of the scanned image.

      • A charge-coupled device is similar to a photovoltaic cell. CCDs use a thin layer of silicon, which becomes electrically reactive when light strikes the surface.
