Inspecting your Trees and Shrubs, Low Risk Affordable Home Insurance Rates

A Monterey Pine – Home Risks

Have you taken a close look at your trees? Sometimes you can see if a tree may be placing your home at risk. Other times you may find that you don’t know you’re at risk until something happens. I was reading a recent news story about a family who experienced a 60ft tree falling on their home.

It happened in San Mateo, a large suburb of San Francisco California. A Family recently had one occurrence where the roots of an old pine tree were not strong enough to keep it from falling onto their home. It was a 60-foot-tall Monterey Pine which fell on the home during the night. The owner of the home woke up, figured it was a small tremblor and went back to bed. The two daughters in the house never woke up. They must of been some deep sleepers. Around 5am in the morning a neighbor driving to work seen the home covered with this tree and decided to pull in to make sure everyone was okay. No one was injured but there was significant damage to the home and a few minor scratches to the vehicle sitting in the garage. The tree was assumed to be about 60 years old with some root problems which caused it to fall. In order to get the residents out of the home, firefighters had to cut away a few branches in order to provide a path. A local tree service took care of the rest.

Have you inspected your trees and shrubs?

Take a close look at your trees today. Are branches hanging over your porch or even your entire house? It’s even good to make sure even the smallest of branches are not hanging over your roofs edge. Why wait for them to grow into a problem? Also, small branches can shed dry leaves into gutter which may become a fire hazard. The more we can reduce risk, the less insurance claims we will need to file. With less risk and less claims, insurance rates will continue to reduce making your homeowner’s policy an affordable one.

One other way of getting a lower homeowners policy is by combining your auto and homeowners with a single company. If your’e interested in comparing rates for an auto home package you can begin by comparing auto quotes online. During the online auto quote process you will be given the opportunity to request a homeowners package quote.
