Although you may tend to think of trailer tents as being the little brother of more conventional touring caravans, it may be comforting to know that trailer tent insurance can offer the same high levels of cover that are typically available for their bigger siblings.
New for old
The age of your trailer tent and the number of previous owners may typically be used to determine the basis of replacement should it be damaged beyond the point where repairs would be a realistic option.
You may also find that some policies may require that you have been the only owner of the vehicle from new to benefit from new for old replacement.
Awnings
Cover for awnings may be available as a separate option of trailer tent insurance and may be based on the requirement that the awning is securely stowed away whenever you leave your trailer tent – so as to help reduce the risk of damage from sudden storms.
Theft protection
The use of a hitchlock and a wheel clamp may be a requirement of your cover whenever your trailer tent is not attached to the towing vehicle and you are not present.
If attached to the towing vehicle then a wheel clamp may typically be all that is required, but do check your policy for clarification.
Discounts
As with touring caravans, you may find that discounts on premiums may be available in some circumstances.
For example:
- choosing a site which has a good safety record in terms of flooding, thefts and vandalism;
- belonging to a recognised caravan club or association;
- fitting an approved tracking device.
These may all result in lower premiums for your trailer tent insurance without compromising on levels of cover provided and that can only be a good thing!
