Summer’s here, and folks are headed in droves to their favorite sandy getaways. Whether you’re loading up the sedan and driving across the state, or whether you’re buying travel insurance and getting onto a big bird to fly somewhere else, you’d better bring along a swimsuit because this promises to be one of the best beach summers ever.
Accordingly, CNN has recently put out a list of the top beaches in the United States. Now, when you look at the list you’ll notice that the beaches all tend to be ocean beaches. There are no small lakes or fresh water beaches here, which is at least a little bit interesting. By definition, it would seem that CNN has ruled out many potentially great beaches.
Regardless, here are the top coastal beaches in the U.S., according to CNN:
- Coopers Beach, Southampton, New York.
- Siesta Beach, Sarasota, Florida.
- Coronado Beach in San Diego, California.
- Cape Hatteras in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
- Main Beach in East Hampton, New York.
- Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii.
- Coast Guard Beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
- Beachwalker Park in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
- Hamoa Beach in Maui, Hawaii.
10. Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne, Florida.
At the top of the list is Coopers Beach. This is a sandy stretch of beach in the Hamptons, on the east end of Long Island. Its most notable features include a number of large historic mansions, as well as St. Andrews Dune Church. We assume that “Dune” refers to the location, and not the presence of illegal spices. You’ll notice that there’s another beach nearby in East Hampton on the list.
There are a couple of obligatory Florida beaches, although why CNN chose these two is at least a little bit of a mystery. Also noteworthy is the presence of just a single California Beach. Two of the beaches are in Hawaii, meaning that a full 7 beaches are on the Atlantic coastline.
So, what does this list really tell us? Not a damn thing. Our advice is to find the nearest beach to where you’re at and give it a whirl. If you don’t like that one, go to the next closest. Keep doing that and you’ll find an awesome beach in no time.
