Recently, some of our friends gave us the news that one of our favorite bands from our high school years was getting back together and going on tour. Since then, we’ve checked the band’s website on a weekly basis, waiting to see if they’re going to come anyplace close. We’ve even suggested that if they don’t come somewhere close to home, we might get together and travel somewhere to see them. Where we would go, I don’t exactly know, though my personal vote is for an exotic location (Bermuda, anyone?). Wherever we end up going, we’ll be sure to take out travel insurance if it’s overseas.
With so many of the higher grossing concert tours in recent years being put on by older bands, and reunion tours becoming increasingly popular (The Police, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen have been amongst the highest grossing tours in recent years) more and more people who want to see the shows actually have the money to travel to see them, if they choose to do so. Many people are even planning vacations around a favorite artist’s concert schedule.
When it comes down to it, why see the Rolling Stones in Detroit if you can travel and see them in London? We came this close once to scoring tickets to see The Police in Paris. Admittedly, that’s a hell of a long way to go for a concert, but the idea is that you can do a lot more while you’re there, incorporating the concert as the highlight of your vacation.
We won’t tell which band is reuniting. First of all, we don’t want you to beat us to Ticket Master. And, perhaps more importantly, we don’t want to date ourselves. On the other hand, if we end up going to see them somewhere overseas, it might not matter. Unless, of course, you want to come with us.
If you travel overseas for any reason, though, make it a point to take out travel insurance. Not only will you have the peace of mind from knowing that you can get your money back if you should have to cancel the trip, but you will have health coverage while you are abroad, ensuring that your travel budget isn’t busted on a hospital visit.
